2. What age range will this suit?

From 10 lbs / 3 months up to potty training - the nappies are adjustable, they grow with your child. Close the buttons to make the nappy smaller, open them to make the nappy bigger.

3. How long will this last me?

This Kit is enough to do two days a week of reusable - use them all in one day, wash them, dry them, take them out again and repeat. These nappies can be washed and reused by up to 4 children.

4. How many single use nappies will I save?

Using your kit twice a week for 2.5 years will save 1,300 single use nappies from landfill. If you'd like to reuse more often, simply buy another kit or add more single nappies.

Getting Started

Prewash everything in the kit before you get started.

Our EcoKinly Grab & Go nappies are made from 8 layers of natural bamboo cotton and bamboo terry - these materials, get more absorbent the more they are washed (like a new towel!). You can use them after one wash - but they won't be as absorbent as they will when they have been through your washing machine 3-4 times.

Your nappy kit is enough to use reusables for one day - pick a day that suits you, go reusable for the day. Pop your nappies into the washing machine, hang them up to dry and then take them back out again on the next day it suits you to reuse. Build a routine that works for your family.

Fit and Use

  • Reusable nappies fit like mom-jeans you need to leave some wiggle room at the waist - allow two stacked finger gap between baby's tummy and the nappy waist band.

  • You should have a good leg seal without any gaps.

  • Ensure the velcro isn't rubbing against skin.

  • No material sticking out of the nappy and no clothes tucked into the nappy - wetness will seep.

  • When fitting on a younger baby you can fold the internal insert back on itself so it fits snuggly. Snap the poppers on the front closed.

  • When closing the snap poppers always tuck the excess pul material in-between the snaps upwards.

  • Remember - before a baby starts to crawl / walk - they can be a on bigger size setting. Babies who are moving / walking, will slim up and might need to go back down a nappy size setting. A 6 month old baby could be in a bigger size setting than a 16 month old!

Storing Used Nappies

When you have changed a nappy - store it in your wet bag, hang this in your utility to near your baby changing table. Nappies do not need to be soaked, they store best in an airy location.

Poop

If your baby has had a dirty nappy and they are on solid food, you can remove the stools directly to the toilet or with a nappy liner to the bin. If you are under time pressure, you can close the nappy up and do this step later ahead of rinsing the nappies.

If your baby is not yet eating solid foods, solids do not need to be removed - milk only baby poop is water soluble and will be removed during the rinse stage in your washing machine.

Washing

  1. Rinse Wash Cycle First - with only nappies and wipes on their own - choose a short, cool rinse cycle, without any detergent. It does not need to be labelled "Rinse" on your machine, you can choose 30 degree wash for 30 mins or something similar.  Choose a cycle where the water is fully emptied from the machine. Do not use "pre-rinse" setting because this reuses the water in the main wash - we do not want this.

  2. Long Hot Wash - after your nappies have been rinse, choose a long cotton wash (40-60) at least 2-3 hours. Bulk up the load with small items of clothes so there is good agitation for washing your nappies. Use powder detergent of choice. Do not use softener - this will absorbent into your nappies and then prevent them from absorbing when in use on the baby.

  3. Hang to dry - air dry is best. Boosters can be tumbled dried.

Out and About and Childcare

Pack reusable nappies in your baby changing bag exactly the same as you would pack single use, pack them with liners in so they are ready to go straight onto the baby.. Bring an empty wet bag, where you or your childminder can easily store used nappies and your EcoKinly Wet Wipes Caddy.  Send 4-5 nappies to the childminder for the day.

Boosting your Nappies

EcoKinly Grab & Go Nappies come with a pocket at the back for easy boosting - where you can increase the absorbency of your nappy by adding more inserts.

As your baby grows, the absorbency demand will increase. Your Grab & Go nappies comes with a Mini Hemp Booster, as your baby grows you can swap this for a Mighty Hemp Booster or pair if with an Everyday Bamboo booster to extend time between changes.

For a baby who is still actively drinking overnight or a heavier wetting toddler - choose our new NightGuard Nappy (coming June 26), designed for 12 hours + use.

Resolving Leaks

As you get the hang of reusable nappies, you may experience some leaks - but these are easily resolved. EcoKinly nappies are highly absorbent so you will experience less leaking.

Good to Know

  • Nappy cream should not be allowed to touch the inside of the reusable nappy, it will soak in and can block the fabric from absorbing pee effectively. If using nappy cream, use it sparingly and rub it well into the babies skin, always use a nappy liner.
  • Nappy rash can occur for lots of different reasons, if your baby has a flare up of nappy rash, give them lots of nappy free time (easy with our Nappy Free Time Mat) and with appropriate rash care creams - always use a nappy liner.
  • Detergent Build up - sometimes detergent can build up in your reusable nappies, so including an extra rinse step at the end of your main long wash will help to reduce any build up of detergent in your nappies.
