Meet EcoKinly Newborn: Gentle Skin Kind Nappies from the Very Beginning
Newborn Quick Start FAQs
NB: Wash your absorbent inserts 2-3 times before first use.
This helps the bamboo fibres begin to reach their full absorbency. The waterproof cover only needs one wash before first use.
1. What size baby does the EcoKinly Newborn Nappy fit?
Our Newborn Nappy is designed for babies from approximately 5lb to 12lb, typically covering the first 0–3 months. The adjustable snaps allow you to change the fit as your baby grows.
2. What comes with each nappy?
Each EcoKinly Newborn Nappy includes:
-
1 reusable waterproof nappy cover
-
2 snap-in bamboo absorbent inserts

That means two nappy changes in every box. If the cover is still clean after a change, simply wipe it, snap in the second clean insert and reuse it.
3. How do I put it on?
Snap a clean bamboo insert into the waterproof cover. Place it under your baby just as you would a disposable nappy, bring the front up and fasten the waist snaps.
The nappy should sit comfortably and snugly around your baby's legs and waist without being tight.
4. Do I need a separate waterproof cover?
No. The waterproof cover is already in the box.
5. Do I change the whole nappy every time?
Not necessarily. If your baby has only wet the insert and the cover is clean, remove the wet insert, wipe the inside of the cover if necessary and snap in a fresh one.
If the cover is soiled, put the whole nappy into your reusable nappy storage bag ready for washing.
6. How often will I need to change my newborn?
Newborn babies need frequent nappy changes. Check your baby regularly and change whenever the nappy is soiled or the insert is saturated. They may need to be changed 8-10 times per day.
Reusable nappies don't contain the super-absorbent gels found in many disposable nappies, so regular changing is part of using them particularly during the newborn stage.
7. How do I wash it?
Dry store used nappies until wash day.
Put the nappies only on a cool rinse wash first, followed by a long cotton wash at 40–60°C with powder detergent. For the long wash you can top up the machine with extra items of small laundry.
Do not use fabric softener or bleach. Hang to dry, or low heat tumble the inserts.
8. Do I have to use reusable nappies full-time?
Not, you can combination nappy. Use one day per week. Use them at home. Use them during the daytime and disposables overnight. Or use reusable nappies from birth full-time.
Reusable doesn't have to be all or nothing. Find a reusable routine that suits your family.

One little nappy. Two changes. Made for those very first weeks.
The newborn stage involves a lot of nappy changes.
That's exactly why we designed the EcoKinly Newborn Nappy differently.
Instead of washing an entire nappy after every wet change, our newborn system combines a wipeable waterproof cover with two removable, snap-in bamboo inserts.
Baby wets the insert? Unsnap it. Wipe the cover if needed. Snap in the second clean insert. The inserts dry very quickly, allowing for speedy turnaround - lower absorbency but higher turnaround.
One nappy. Two inserts. Two changes in every box.
A simple reusable system designed specifically for the newborn stage.

New to reusable nappies? Here's everything you need to know.
How does the EcoKinly Newborn Nappy work?
The system has two separate jobs.
The insert absorbs.
The cover keeps moisture in and everything contained - no poonami escapes up the back here!
Simply snap one of the bamboo inserts into the waterproof cover and put the nappy onto your baby.
When it's time for a change, unsnap the insert.
If the cover is still clean, it doesn't automatically need to go into the wash. Wipe it if necessary, snap in your second clean insert and you're ready for another change.
If the cover has been soiled, simply wash the entire nappy.
This means fewer waterproof covers need to move through your laundry particularly useful during those early weeks when it can feel like you're changing nappies constantly.
How should a newborn reusable nappy fit?
Newborns are tiny — and every newborn is shaped differently.
The nappy should sit snugly around the legs and waist without digging into your baby's skin.
Use the adjustable snaps to get the size right for your baby.
Once it's on, check:
- There are no obvious gaps around the legs
- The nappy sits comfortably around the waist - allow some room at the tummy so it's not too tight.
- The absorbent insert is completely contained within the waterproof cover
- Nothing absorbent is sticking out around the legs or back
Don't worry if your reusable nappy looks a little different from a disposable. The important thing is a comfortable, secure fit with no gaps.
Why are there two inserts?
Because newborns need changing frequently.
Rather than giving you one complete nappy that has to go into the wash after every wet change, we wanted to make the waterproof part work harder.
Each Newborn Nappy therefore comes with two natural bamboo inserts.
Use one. Change it. Use the second.
The cover only needs to be washed at the end of the day, so you could use the same cover - provided its not wet or soiled - for 3-4 nappy changes each day.
It's a small design decision that can make reusable nappies much more practical during the newborn stage.

Will my baby's skin feel wet?
The insert includes a moisture-wicking stay-dry layer next to your baby's skin.
This helps move moisture away from the surface and towards the absorbent bamboo layers underneath, helping your baby feel comfortable between changes.
What is the Newborn Nappy made from?
The absorbent inserts contain three layers of bamboo, chosen for absorbency and softness.
The reusable waterproof cover is made using 100% recycled polyester from plastic bottles.
EcoKinly nappies are designed without added chemicals and meet SGS and CPSIA safety standards.
When something is going to sit against your newborn baby's skin day after day, we think parents should be able to understand what it's made from.
How do I wash newborn reusable nappies?
After changing your baby, remove the used insert and dry-store it with your reusable nappies until wash day.
If the waterproof cover is clean, it can be wiped and reused.
When it needs washing:
1. Cool rinse wash
Run nappies through a cool rinse wash first.
2. Main wash
Follow with a long cotton wash at 40–60°C using powder detergent.
Do not use fabric softener or bleach.
Remove the inserts from the covers so everything can wash and dry thoroughly.
Make sure everything is completely clean and dry before using it again.
How many newborn reusable nappies do I need?
This depends entirely on how you want to use them.
You don't have to buy enough reusable nappies to cover every change from day one.
You might start with a few and use them during the day at home.
You might decide to replace just one disposable nappy each day.
Or you might build a larger newborn reusable nappy stash and use them most or all of the time.
There's no pass or fail with reusable nappies. We have an excellent Newborn Starter Kit which is a great way to begin with reusables for newborn.
Every time you wash and reuse one, that's one less single-use nappy you needed to buy and throw away.
Can I use reusable nappies from birth?
Yes.
Reusable nappies don't have to be something you introduce when your baby gets bigger.
Our Newborn Nappy was designed specifically for those first weeks, fitting from approximately 5lb to 12lb.
And starting reusable nappies doesn't mean committing to using them for every change.
Try one.
See how you get on.
Use another tomorrow.
Build a routine that works for your family. It may suit to wait until you are home from the hospital and feel like you have the energy and mental headspace to try them. Ensure that your partner or other family members are also involved and share the wash routine, so that everyone can lend a hand.
Why choose reusable nappies for a newborn?
Because the newborn stage involves hundreds of nappy changes in a remarkably short space of time.
A disposable nappy has one life: use it once and throw it away. It also contains many chemicals, plastic and glue which can irritate delicate newborn skin.
A reusable nappy is designed for multi use and becomes softer the more you wash it, it contains no added chemicals and allows a breathable nappy system.
Do I need to booster my Newborn Nappy?
Your EcoKinly newborn nappy contains 9 layers of bamboo cotton when it's folded in place, it's highly absorbent.
As your babu begins to grow and moves closer to 3 month stage and their output increases, you might need to add additional boosters. Our Mini Hemp is ideal. Mini Hemp can be purchased separately, or its includes in our Grab and Go 3 month + nappies, so you if move to the next EcoKinly Nappy size up you will be able to use the boosters in your newborn nappies.
Start with one reusable day — right from the very beginning.
